Don't forget that Belize has land snails also. If you can take an extra 2
or 3 days to visit the mountains, you'll be treated to many extraordinary
sights.
A beautiful resort in the mountains is the Hidden Valley Lodge ( about 12
or so cabins) with out-of-sight meals. The trip to Caracol in a Blazer is
worth the time. You'll see the Ocellated Turkey, Jesus Lizard, huge wasp
hives, black weasle, King Vulture and maybe a Tucan. Jaguars (not the
four-wheeled type) are there but its doubtful you'll see once except in the
very nice Belize Zoo.
Oh yes, shells. I collected several species of land snails and fresh water
snails from the Macal River (black river snails). Can't put names on
anything but they have a nice cozy spot in my collection.
Getting through customs depends on having that "sweet old man" look. Sorry
I can't send a picture of myself (no attachments allowed).
