Wretched things don't have the decency to live in the South Island.
Never seen one...

In fact the NZ freshwater molluscan fauna is depauperate, possibly
due to much of the continent being submerged during Middle Cenozoic
times (though bits of fossil wood indicate forested land).

We have ONE species of bivalve (Hyridella menziesii) and about 8 spp
of gastropods, most introduced.
