I prefer soft-shells, Mya arenaria, myself. I notice that they've become far more scarce since the days in the mid-60s when I dug them out of the sandflats with my fingernails.

Can anyone confirm this scarcity?

Heck, in New England back when I was growing up, blue mussels were
considered bait! You could buy a bushel of them for a fraction of the
price of steamer clams. And they are so much tastier.
