Lt Col Corrinne Edwards (Ret) was a great ol' gal when I knew her. I
first met her at my very first shell club meeting in 1974. There was a
table of shells at the front of the meeting room and I was looking them
over, thinking "this shell looks like a cerith - must be related to
ours", etc, when a little woman came up to me and commanded, "Here, you
sit in the front row - you looked at the shells!" It was Corinne, who
was speaking on her trip to Australia.

She came on a trip with me to Roatan, Honduras in 1979 and collected
(among other things) an Acanthopleura granulata, the common Atlantic
Fuzzy Chiton. She didn't have a board to tie it to so she tied it to a
chair leg with some of that heavy tape that has fabric cords through it
to make it impossible to break. The chiton curled itself enough to
break away and crawl off!

Her exhibits (that I saw) were far from the professional-looking ones
we see today (or even then), but they had fascinating subjects with
different twists and were always educational.

I've heard some wonderful stories about her from members of the Greater
Miami Shell Club. Somebody come through, will you?

Peggy
