We accept all type, figured, and cited specimens, which we refer to under
the general heading of voucher specimens. Such specimens document research
that has already been done, and allow future workers to verify the work of
their predecessors. If someone wants to show up at the museum with a type
specimen and hand it to me. I will be happy to accept it (assuming that the
specimen had been acquired legally). It's actually happened a couple of
times. It is not unusual for us to receive a type specimen in the mail with
a request for a catalogue number to be cited in a paper to be submitted. No
prior arrangement is necessary.
