Dear Elizabeth,

The best work as checklist for marine shells I think is
four-books " A LISTING OF THE LIVING MOLLUSCA"
by Y.Goto & & G.T.Poppe, 1996. (2000 pages)

This is the most extensive listing of Mollusca ever
compiled, over 46.000 species, 3.000 subspecies
and more than 150.000 references to your library.

Comes in 2 parts and 4 volumes. Part 1st lists all
species alphabetically, so that you can trace back
your information swiftly. Part 2nd gives you answers
in the frame of Vaught's Classification, with all its extra
information on related species, groups, ranges
throughout the world and lots of other useful knowledge.

There is only a problem. It was printed only in 500
copies ! Two years ago its price was around US $ 160.

Ciao.

Maurizio,

Oggetto: Is there a checklist for shells?

Hi,

I was wondering if there was such a thing as a checklist for marine shells.
I wish to check them off as I collect them, but can't find any sort
of list at all in my ref books or on the web. I'd be happy with a
list of common shells for the amateur sheller, or geographic list of
shells one may find in a certain area...any sort of list to help me
organize.

I realize there are thousands of gastropods out there, but any sort of
short list I could use as a beginning organization tool to get started would
be helpful.

Thanks,
Elizabeth
