Hello Oliver:

A more recent and thorough (but pricey) work on Nassariidae is:

Cernohorsky, Walter O. - 1984
Systematics of the family Nassariidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda)
Bull. Auckland Inst.& Mus. No. 14, ISSN 00067-0456.
356 pp. + iv , 173 figs. throughout, plus 51 plates, soft cover, 4to.

This work was originally slated as 2nd part of Cernohorsky's "Nassariidae"
for the "Monographs of Marine Mollusca", that R. Tucker Abbott edited.
Which was the follow up to the "Indo-Pacific Mollusca" series.

Of N. turulosus-semistriatus-edwardsi-gallandianus is listed

N. macodon recidivus (von Martens, 1876)
        N. semistriatus var. recidiva von Martens, 1876
        N. semistriatus var. bulliaeformis Kobelt, 1878
        N. semistriatus var. azorica Dautzenberg, 1879

N. turulosus (Risso, 1826)
        Planaxis turulosus Risso, 1826
        Nassa edwardsi P. Fischer, 1882

N. elatus (Gould, 1845)
        Nassa elata Gould, 1845
        Nassa gallandiana Fischer, 1862
        Nassa interstincta Marrat, 1878
        Columbella buchholzi von Martens, 1881
Nassa gallandiana var. monochroma Locard, 1887
Nassa gallandiana var. albida Locard, 1887

Oddly, N. semistriatus is completely missing from the index.
Nassarius semistriatus (Brocchi, 1814)
Is nowhere to be found

Brocchi, 1814 - is not in the bibliography either.

So a quick review part one was warranted:
Cernohorsky, Walter O. - 1981
The Family Buccinidae, Part 1: The Genera Nassaria, Trajana & Neoteron,
Monographs of Marine Mollusca - No 2: 1-52, 42 pl, [16-201~284], American
Malacologist Inc, Aug 15, 1981, ISSN: 0162-8321

It covers the wrong Genera...

Moving on to a 3rd work:
Cernohorsky, Walter O. - 1982
Family Nassariidae Iredale, 1916,
(Wagner & Abbott's) Standard Catalog of Shells 3rd Edition, supplement 2,
American Malacologist Inc, Oct. 1982, pp. 17-201~17-244.

        Buccinum semistriatum Brocchi, 1814
        (Crete Senesi, Miocene Italy)

Given this, it is not listed in Cernohorsky 1984 because it is a fossil
species.

Hope this was helpful.

... someday maybe I'll finish my paper on
Indo-Pacific Mollusca / Monographs of Marine Mollusca / Standard Catalog of
Shells ... et. al.

Leslie :)

Regarding Nassarius turulosus-semistriatus-edwardsi-gallandianus etc...
complex in which I fell some hours ago, I've recieved an advice to look for
this interesting paper:

Adam, W. & M. Glibert, 1974.
Contribution a la connaissance de Nassarius semistriatus (Brocchi, 1814)
(Mollusca: Gastropoda).
Bull. Inst. Roy. Sci. Nat. Belg. (Biol.), 50 (3): 1-78, 5 plates.
[Thanks Henks for this info!]

I would be happy to exchange a copy of this with some good stuff from my
drawers.
Thanks in advance...

Olivier Caro

How did people do when wwweb wasn't available?
Errors survived during years and years, while the knowledge wandered in deep
caves with such distance between them than people only knew the existence of
one or two.
