I have always drowned slugs and then transferred them to ethanol. But
Hubricht (1985) stated: "many such specimens are practically
unidentifiable." What is the preferred method of preserving slugs?

And for Stephanie, my mail to you keeps bouncing back as undeliverable. The
information you requested on Helisoma anceps is:

Planorbis anceps Menke, 1830. Synopsis Methodica molluscorum generum omnium
et specierum earum quae in Museo Menkeana adversabitur. 2nd edition.
Pyrmont, Germany. xvi + 168 pp. [anceps is on p. 36].

This is a rare work, and unfortunately I do not have it.
