Most of the papers on this topic are written in Japanese language.
One of the recent:
Ishida M, Iwasaki K, Kuwahara Y (2005) Initial invation history and
process of range extension of Mytilus galloprovincialis - inferred from
the specimens collected by T. Furukawa. Venus 64: 151-159

In English, the following is a key paper:
Inoue K, Odo S, Nakao S, Takeyama E, Yamaha E, Yamazaki F, Harayama S
(1997) a possible hybrid zone in the Mytilus edulis complex in Japan
revealed by PCR markers. Marine Biology 128: 91-95
