It does match the Casmaria ponderosa on Eddie's site, in particular, the one from Low Tide Shells.   I did have a stray Cassis slip with a locaiity of Hawaii - the species name was wrong, but I think that is the locality.   The only difference is the stray denticle towards the top of the columella - it shouldn't be there.   Perhaps it covers some sort of inclusion that got onto the columellar area?

Thanks all!   I looked at ponderosa but didn't look at the three pictures; I may not have accessed the site because the representative thumbnail did not match the thickness of the aperture at all.
