The name Helix buchii is a manuscript name of Dubois in "Dr.Philippi's Sammlung [=collection of Dr.Philippi]. See also: Pfeiffer in: Martini & Chemnitz, 1854, 1, 12(3): 417, plate148, figs 6-7.

Ergo Helix buchi Du Bois de Montpereux in L. Pfeiffer, 1853, the attribution of Likhachev and Rammel'meier (1952; see below) notwithstanding.
Although I've frequently seen reference to it, I have never had my hands on Louis Pfeiffer's Monographia(e) heliceorum, which is comprised of seven or eight volumes published from 1847 or 1848 to 1877 (volume three is dated 1853), but I encountered significant problems in trying to bibliographically collate this work, which has a small morass of volumes and supplements. No authority (Ruhoff, Cowie et al., Dance, Wheeler, Google, etc.) consulted was either complete or unambiguous, and there were disagreements as well.
I wonder if this collation has been done adequately in the literature.

Dear Charles,
Likhachev and Rammel'meier (1952) attribute Helix buchi to Louis
Pfeiffer, 1853 [as Helix] and consider it separate from H. lucorum
Linnaeus, 1758. There is no direct comparison of the two in the
text, but the illustrations indicate significant similarity. These
figures indicate H. buchi as having a more deflected, smaller, more
oblique aperture.
