Depending on the beach and region - one might find junk from ships
(trash) or
drug issues running across the beach. Hypo's in sand is not what you
want a
young pre-school person to pick up.

I think some of the big beaches - L.A. and such are using 'combs' behind
tractors
to pull it out of the over wash from the last high tide. [there goes
the shells ]

I'm afraid the 60's and 70's where we worked so hard on the litter issue
across
the US is waining due to the massive influx of foreign peoples who have
different
ways of life and feel towards government(ownership land...) and
ecology. With
that and the drug dumps and just daily discards it is becoming a problem
in some
areas. So perhaps the want to go to the beach is stifled from the git
go by the
parents themselves. It might be a regional or area thing as well. I
donate 4 times
a year to scour the roadways in a group and we tend to get 20+ bags (10+
if full (heavy))
of this and that from the loop - a 2 mile section. So perhaps I see
more than most.
