I'm trying to sort out the variability of the newly-described species,
Siratus pointieri Merle & Garrigues, 2008, but can only find one photo
of the critter on the web, at gastropods.com. Does anyone else have
photos of it, as well as as similar populations in the region which may
or may not represent the same species?

Is protoconch color generally constant within different populations of a
given Muricid species, by the way, or is this a variable feature not
useful in identifications?

From a chilly night in New Scotland,
Ross Mayhew.
