Dear Conchl'ers,

I need some help from the Cypraea and Marginella specialists among us. I
would like to make an initial inquiry about some size records before
formally filing these proposed records with Kim Hutsell.

I would like to find out whether any of you know of a fully adult Cypraea
ostergaardi which is smaller than 14.8mm in length? I recently obtained a
live-taken specimen of that size. This is over 4mm smaller than the
previously listed "smallest known record of Cyp. ostergaardi" listed in the
"Registry of World Record Size Shells." Before I submit this record to
Kim, I want to confirm this fact. I also have a fresh dead specimen that
is 16mm, which leads me to believe that there might be a specimen smaller
than 14.8mm sitting in someone's collection. An image is located at:

Also, does anyone have a Marginella poulosi larger than 36mm? This is
another record I would like to submit, but I'm not sure if a larger
specimen exists.

Let me know. This maybe a good time to take out your calipers and start
measuring shells in your collection that you think are record size. It
only is the largest (or smallest known) if you officially record it.

(sorry if this seems like a commercial; I am more interested in surveying a
large audience for this information on these two species.)

Thanks.

Rich
