A good place to see this phenomenon is Urbina Bay on Isabela Island in
the Galapagos. there is a large section of  an old coral reef that was
lifted some 30 feet or more during an earthquake in the 1950s, well
uphill and away from the beach... There were quite a lot of dead
molluscs lying  about, they had been out in the sun for almost 60 yrs
but their color and patterns were still obvious.
