Land snails tend to be carried long distances by currents because they are
lightweight, and tend to float on the surface.  Most marine shells don't float
as readily.  And, if the shell in question turns out to be Cypraea
clandestina, which I suspect from the description provided, then it came from
the western Pacific, and no current could have carried it from there to
eastern Mexico.
