Dear Conch-lers,

I discovered this evening that leaving a bag of shells in water in sub-zero
temps is bad. I set a bag of partially defrosted Buccinum plectrum, Buccinum
glaciale, and Colus halli out on the porch to de-stink the house. Our warm
spell here in Alaska was broken by a cold snap (go figure). The bag of warm
water I was using to thaw the snails froze into a brick in a few hours. The
sad part was, the apertures of all but one were shattered. It stinks because
they were all such nice specimens before.
