In the Miami Museum of Science there are these nice cabinets with drawers that pull out and you can run your fingers over the shells (but not remove them) and I have been to aquariums where they had someting akin to petting zoos where you could touch the live, slimy Conch, touch a stingray or play with the Hermit Crab. I had to beat the kids :-) back to get in there! I think there is a lesson there. Ownership is great too but just to have a box of stuff for kids or other students to touch, makes for more intensive learning. I have several Hawkwing Conchs, Volutes and such around my office, including a big ol Florida Horse Conch, and the kids and adults alike can't leave my office without handling one or more of the shells, in fact they'll all be worn smooth soon!( yes, I prefer to capitalize and I don't have the latin references ha!
ndy) Just my 2 cents. Michael Huggins, Sunrise FL
