Whenever you go abroad here, as a resident alien you have to fill out a
Japanese immigration declaration. One of the boxes is titled : 'Reason for
returning to Japan'. Over my years here, I have gone from 'Continued
employment' through 'I live here' to 'mind your own business' with no ill
effect whatsoever. I'm sure no-one reads the declaration, but next time I
will put 'To assassinate the emperor' and see what happens.
