Hi all,
Reporting from the southern shelling shores - Queen conch rollers and
Hawkwings were still being unearthed today at "that" beach in Broward county
- even with seas up to 7 feet! Could be a great weekend...
We just returned from a week in Sanibel - all of you lucky folk who spend the
winters there will find it just as lovely as always! The beach renourishment
was a complete bust - I fear Gulf Pines will suffer again, but at least "The
Rocks" were exposed again with 1999's last minus low tides. The beginning of
the week was much too hot and calm - however the impending cold front brought
rolling waves and the first hint of nature's bounty. Sea urchins, by the
hundreds started rolling up on every beach, followed by VanHyning's
cockles(complete). As the seas calmed, folks were clutching armfuls of
fresh-dead horse conchs and whelks, some removing jackets and fashioning them
into makeshift "slings" in order to carry their load! And yes, Junonias were
found this week - I wonder if I'll ever find mine?
Happy shelling to everyone who can make it to a beach this weekend - happy
shell dreams to those who can't!
Joni
