Thanks for the suggestions Paulo. I now have a few small live clams
residing with it.
Will be interesting to see if it shows an interest in them, as is. If no
interest after a day or two,
will try mashing one and letting sit a few hours as you suggest.
I was pleased to see that the Eurasia Shells (an excellent website!) has
an image of a live Phyllocoma convoluta:

Mr Suduiraut appears to have resorted to the tactic I discussed. As you
will see, it is successful in presenting a
clear view of the animal. And I will take these images like this. But
I'm aiming for a more natural pose.
Catching the animal feeding would especially add interest. Easier said
than done!
