Some Paleozoic species seem to have either one valve or the other more
convex, e.g., taxa in Maminka.
There seem to be multiple independent components to the hinge reversal
in bivalves, as different parts of the hinge transpose independently.
In general, the early development of the hinge is understudied since
the major work about a century ago. What is actually homologous?
