I remember the story of the Cape Canaveral dump. The way I heard it, some
lady followed the truck with the scallops and then the truck dumped the
contents--on her. She was in over her head and had to be retrieved from
the dump. As I heard it, (may be rumor) she protested when she was billed
for the vehicle that extracated her.

There is a dump near Darien, Ga., but someone has overcollected when there
were scallops, filling up 5 gallon bucks (many) and taking them off. The
owner has stopped anyone , except by permission, from entering the dump.
Unfortunately, there's not much there any more.

My "smelliest" memory of that dump was in January '90. The material had
been there about 3 days, and the flies were unreal. We had a motor home at
the time and the hood was BLACK!!!! It reminded me of "The Birds."

Our club was there one time as the shells were put on the conveyor belt and
we could reach up and grab them before they hit the pile. One of our
members found 16 Junonias.

It was really a great place to shell-but, like everywhere else, it's about
gone too!!
