I got a sizable supply at a university technicians' sale for nix. I
imagine this sort of thing is not uncommon... hospitals too.

I don't normally use these things, as they make close examination of
specimens really impractical. And a significant proportion jam and
refuse to open again, meaning that you have to cut them open to
retrieve the shell within... with the attendant possibility of
damage. I prefer to use glass vials.

Gelcapped specimens can of course be stored inside vials...
