Dear Fellow Subscribers,
Like most collectors I have always endeavoured to obtain as much
information as possible concerning the specimens in my collection. Some
years ago, I received a rather nice parcel of Abalone shells from a
Japanese business contact, who had heard of my interest in shells. They
were all nice specimens but alas no Location data. I sent him a letter of
thanks and stressed how important it was for me to have any information on
where the shells had come from. A few weeks later, I received a very
detailed letter giving the name, address, and telephone numbers of all the
Restaurants, where he had eaten the Abalone. He obviously liked to eat
Abalone, and when he had finished, he asked the chef for the empty shell.
You can't win them all.
  Regards from STANLEY FRANCIS.
