Hello Simone:
My research proved-out the same inconclusive results.
Internet lookups on a J Fury in the (530) area code, nor a
reverse lookup of the phone number he provided produced anything.
His email address: [log in to unmask], is also not useful for researching.
Museum of Northern California is a blank slate too.

Here is what I found in a web lookup.
        Gridley Museum
        601 Kentucky Street
        Gridley, CA 95948
        (530)846-4482

Alternately I did find:
        Northern California Natural History Museum
        www.ncnhm.org
        California State University
        Chico, CA 95929-0555
... which is in the (530) area code and
Also, Gridley & Chico are less than 30 miles apart.

I will call John and them tomorrow for authentication.
Leslie

Dear Listers, I received the following letter today and have not been able
to find any reference to the museum in Gridley, CA on the internet. Please
also view my response below. If you think that the request is genuine and
you can think of a better or easier way to help the curator with shells,
please can you contact him directly? Thanks!
Simone

Subject: Museum display

My name is John Furry, I am the Director of the Museum of Northern
California. We are putting together a display of shell from various
localities from all over the world. Do you make donations of representative
shells from Australia. We were in Port Douglas in August and were given
quite a few shells, all of which were seized by Customs in Cairns. I had
not checked the proper box on the export form. Any shells you could donate
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
John Furry Ph.D. Director,
The Museum of Northern California
Gridley, California (530)891-8918
