         § § § The Conchology Historical Society § § §
                 An organization dedicated to the
Preservation of 20th Century Shell Collecting Memorabilia

The 20th Century was the peak place in time for the Shell Collector, a
special time when technology brought to us in abundance and variety -
Shells, Publications, and Clubs as never seen before! The “Conchology
Historical Society’s” goal is to help collect and preserve the many
rapidly-vanishing bits and pieces of memorabilia from this high era.

      >>>>> CHS Collects & Curates Conchological Clutter <<<<<

As Shell Collectors, we seem to accumulate what I call “Conchological
Clutter”. This amounts to everything from the little pieces of paper and
handouts you bring home from shell club meetings, shell shows and
conventions, to dealer lists, book announcements and inserts, club
newsletters and shell journals… or even letters from your favorite expert or
trading partner, etc.

Many of the Shell Clubs, Publications, Dealers and Collectors have passed on
over the years, each leaving a rich legacy and a history that is worth
preserving.

The Conchology Historical Society is not a club; it is an educational entity
formed to gather these pieces of our heritage so they can be preserved.
This is a long-term project to acquire these materials before they end up in
a landfill. So you may be thinking you don’t have much?… well, your few
items could be exactly what is needed to fill in an empty spot!

Over time many of these items will be placed in Museum Libraries such as
those in Sanibel, Philadelphia and the Houston area, plus others. A major
goal is to transform some of the material into articles and a web-accessible
format for free public access, becoming the backbone of the Halieus
Anthropos Research Foundation’s educational web site content.

Here is a small sample list of what we are looking for:

§ Club Newsletters & Memorabilia (pins, patches, badges, buttons)
§ Shell Show, Convention & Auction Brochures & other Club Materials
§ Shell & other relevant Journals & Magazines, or Diaries
§ Inserts from those Journals & Magazines
§ Booklets, Books, & Hand-outs on Shells & Shell Craft, etc.
  § Book Announcements, Advertisements
§ Post cards, Article Reprints, and Brochures
§ Dealer Lists, both Shell & Book Dealers
  § Personal Correspondence & Photos
§ Everything Shell Hobby & Science related is significant!

As a shell collector all of this is part of your legacy too! It is a part
of who you are and a part of how you can be remembered as well… It is our
heritage! If you have materials you would like to sell, loan, or donate,
please contact:
