Thanks guys!

Yes, that was what concerned Tony - about the alcohol being denaturated. So I am passing him this
info!

Marcus

PS. Thanks for leaving a comment on my article, Matt!

Hi Marlo,
Good point, I think that most of the denatured alcohol is ethyl. They do that so people won't drink
it and by doing so do an end run around the taxes placed on drinking alcohol.

What Tony was told can be true. If the isopropyl alcohol (or any other kind) is "Denatured" (have
denaturants added), the denaturants can eat up the calcium carbonate in the shell. Do not use
denatured alcohol.

If the alcohol is not denatured, there should be no problem.

Tony McCleery asked if it is ok to leave shells on isopropyl alcohol for long periods. I've been
using in most of
my trips, but I only leave shells for a few days before cleaning them.

He said someone told him it could attack the shell structure and destroy it if immersed for several
years.

Is this correct?

Marcus
