Richard/Bill,

I agree with Conus violaceus Gmelin, 1791 being an East African species.
To be complete in the re-evaluation: it could also be violaceus Reeve,
1844 (different author again) renamed viola by Cernohorsky. A common
species in the Philippines.

Kind regards,

Arnold

Richard,

Suggest you re-evalutate your identification. Conus violaceus Gmelin,
1791
is usually found off East Africa. To my knowledge it has not been
reported
from the Philippines.

You may want to consider Conus glans Hwass, 1792. One of the synonyms
of
Conus glans is Conus violaceus Link, 1807 (note the different author).

Warm regards,

Bill Fenzan
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
