There is still time to register for the Conchologists of America (COA) convention at Radisson at the Port, Cape Canaveral, Florida, July 13-17,2011. www.conchologistsofamerica/org/conventions
We prefer you pre-register but will accept registrations at the convention. Remember you must be registered to attend the reception/programs/silent auction/field trips. You do not have to be registered to attend the oral auction or the bourse.

There is also still time to register for the seven categories of shell exhibit show, Thursday, July 14. These categories are designed to be compact enough to allow for those flying to bring a small display. The winners in each category will receive a nice Ordovician polished cephalopod stone plaque (which is also very portable to take home in your luggage if you win). Noted shell authorities Bill Lyons and Don Pisor have been invited to judge the entries.

Categories:
#1 Record-sized world wide shell-single specimen. This does not have to be a world record shell but can be any exceptionally large specimen of any land/freshwater/or marine shell.

#2 Freakiest shell- single specimen. This can be a distorted or just strange or ugly shell.

#3 Unusual coloration- single specimen. Strange color, brilliant or pattern of colors.

#4 Left-handed shell- single specimen. This can be a normally sinistral shell or sinistral form of a dextral shell- land, marine, freshwater.

#5 Mini case of Space Coast Shells. Maximum 24" x 24" display - East Coast Central Florida: from Daytona to West Palm Beach. The Space Coast encompasses land, freshwater, and marine species.

#6 Miniature shells-under 1/2" Maximum 24" x 24" display All shells (mature or juveniles must be 1/2" or less)

#7 Treasure found by walking the beach or diving (with explanation). Use your imagination- not limited to seashells! Gold doubloons, anyone?

Send entries to Doris Underwood, 7529 Ensemble Lane, Melbourne, FL 32940.

See you in sunny Florida in a few short weeks!
