Hi all, back on the list after a little time out.

Last week a friend organised "Les journées de la malacologie méditerrannéenne" nearby, so I met many collectors and my passion grew up so that, together with a friend, we decided to go shelling in the sun for a week beginning of May. We're in southern France, and we thought of warm water such as RED SEA (EGYPT) or KENYA.

In Egypt we read about 100 000 DIVES A DAY being performed along the stretch of coast, Hurghada being the busiest, and this is all we want to avoid.

Does anybody know how to go shelling in peace there?

Is there a way to rent a car and tanks, and go along the coast on our own?

Is there 100% chance to get caught at the airport, even though we are very reasonnable collectors, collecting only 1 or 2 specimens per species for our own collections?

Who knows the regulations and the way they are enforced?

Has anybody tried mailing shells from Egypt?

Same questions are valid for Kenya.

Who's been collecting in Kenya? Is it any good around Mombasa?

I lack info on kenyan shells, even though I searched the net. In books, a guy called Ken Sargeant is often quoted as the specialist for Kenya. Is he alive, reachable, or as he written books?

Thanx in advance to any fellow self-collector.

Laurent
