Very sad news. My recollection of Wayne when I first met him at an
early COA convention in the late 1970's was that he was always
encouraging to new collectors like myself and was a straight-shooter;
he always told it like it was. Though so many others were far closer
friends to Wayne, he never let me feel like an outsider over the
years and always went out of his way to say hello and chat about some
aspect of shells. His love of shell collecting and his love of
putting away a few beers with friends over some intense shell
conversation stands out as one of those memories that will stick with
me. Wayne commanded respect just because, "he was Wayne"...and those
who knew Wayne will know what I mean.
