Oh, why not immortality?

Yes, let me be silicified:
It won't be half so bad I've died,
If I'm preserved.
 
Silicified must be my fate:
It's better than my present state,
And that's for sure.
 
I'll fit into my chosen place:
Type specimen of Human Race,
My fame secure.
