One of the great joys of shelling on Eleuthera is the ease of collecting
there! You can drive the entire length of the island, all beaches are
accessible from an automobile, with the exception of a few small private
developments. Automobiles are easily rented from most housing rental
agents, the inhabitants are friendly and there is little crime. There
are no restrictions on shelling other than the Bahamas have a ban on
harvesting S. gigas with "less than a mature outer lip" and of course,
S. gigas is included on the CITES list, as was recently mentioned, and
is illegal to bring into the US.
