We talked about this some years ago, and I know I could search the
archives, but let's re-examine the topic: what happens to your collection
when you die?
Here's the scenario:
1) You have a large and scientifically valuable private collection, but
2) You are dying, but
3) Your family has always thought you were crazy, but
4) Put up with your eccentric behavior, but
5) Could use the storage area now occupied by your collection for important
stuff, like
6) Star Wars collectibles, including Jar Jar Binks
7) So they either
8) Give it Cousin Cletus to make disposable ashtrays, or
9) Give it to a landfill, thereby negating your entire existence, more or less
What do you do?
(I apologize for those not in the USA, or just south of the Mason/Dixon Line)
Which is better?
1) Donate the entire collection to a museum, or
2) Sell it on commission through a shell dealer?
And by "better" I mean which will benefit the family and/or the collection.
I need to know by July 6 (just kidding! August 3 will probably work.
Probably.) .
