<<Hello All.

I was looking for a few invertebrate videos on google for my class and
I came across this:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4633712994669780584&q=squid

I had previously seen the first part of this, I believe it was on the BBC
show 'Nature, Search for the Giant Squid'. Anyway, this 13 minute video
shows the kind of distruction deep sea nets are haveing on the bethic life
off New Zealand (especially around the 10 minute portion of the video) and
speculates how it has impacted the Giant Squid population.

We've had lots of discussions here about mollusca species in and around
coral reefs disappearing, but this I think maybe even more telling of the
reality of the state of the oceans.>>

Thanks Doug! This film really shows how we are destroying everything in sight in search of short term profits - the deep sea cannot be fished sustainably by demolishing its fragile, very slow-growing ecosystems. We as a "community" need to be MUCH more vocal regarding the heedless disregard which governments and industry (an unholy alliance but a common one!!) are turning the world's oceans into barren wastelands polluted so badly that large predators' bodies are literally "toxic waste".
