I'm not sure how many individuals recall Dr. Albert Mead, regardless, I
have just learned of his passing on 13 March 2009. He was 93 at the time
of his death.

He received his PhD from Cornell University. He taught at the University
of Arizona. he was affiliated with UA as a professor, professor emeritus,
and dean.

Mead was an expert on the gastropods known as Achitinidae: Achitina and
its relatives. Some may be familiar with his book: The Giant African
Snail: A Problem in Economic Malacology, 1961.

Mead was also a past-president of the American Malacological Union (now
the American Malacological Society) having served in this capacity in
1963.

Regards,
Charlie
