Dear Mr. Petit "Richard",

Your review of our book on the "Rare and Unusual Shells of the Florida Keys"
noted several errors. This was a limited printing and we never received a
proof set before it went to press.
The new book "Rare and Unusual Shells of Southern Florida" is a total remake
and expansion of that book. We did use some of the same reviewers and
included a few of their updated remarks on the rear cover.
The new book is the result of over two years of work in the field and in
museums, both photographing and studying type specimens. The photographs are
second to none and the work has been reviewed by other workers.
As in life nothing is perfect and after three proof sets, I found a few
errors. No book is perfect, but it does not take away from the finished
product or to the value to users who are interested in the molluscan fauna
of our state.

Your comments on CONCH-L concerning a book that you have not seen are
disturbing. Your "Conchologica ingrata" is aptly named as you seem to focus
on the negative and do not recognize the value in the items reviewed.
You may contact me directly any time for information concerning our books,
articles, papers, etc. and when you have the facts, you are welcome to print
what you wish.
If you have any additional questions concerning our books you may contact me
at [log in to unmask] or on my cell phone at (352) 516-7821.
If you call me and I do not answer, call again or leave a message, as I turn
it off for meetings and appointments.

Unlike you, I try to find the positive concerning all items in life. I find
it to be much more rewarding.

Best wishes,

Dennis M. Sargent

Subject: Re: [CONCH-L] The Beaui

Dear Harry:

Thanks for your note about the Beauii. I had already been directed to it on
the web. I was hunting a review of the first Petuch & Sargent book that
appears, in part, on the back cover of the new incarnation of that
masterwork. I have amused myself this weekend writing a review of it. The
temptation to entitle it "A floccinaucinihilipilification" is great.

Were Petuch and/or Sargent at Sanibel hawking this work?

Hope you had a good time at Sanibel.

Kindest regards,

Dick
