additional noteworthy recent finds from this spot on Long Island Sound in Nassau County include paired and single valve Lyonsia hyalina (july, Sept), Mulinia lateralis, and most interestingly , two specimens of Kurtziella cerina (Kurtz and Stimpson), Turridae, yesterday. The latter species was one of the rarest (or least often reported) species locally, the Long Island Shell Club publication "Seashells of Long Island" cited only one recent record, further east on Long Island The new shells were found in beachdrft, one complete specimen and one larger broken specimen, which would measure about 7mm if the lower part of the aperture wasn't missing. This is one of several local species that is more common further north, or well to the South.
