I also use Access, but keep the images imbedded in the Access program. 
It is just another data point to be filled in and I leave it with the 
page used to enter data, rather than any of the reports. After saying 
all of that, however, Access is not really all that available. It is not 
included in the typical "home" package, so you must buy the professional 
package to get it. The version I began with is almost two decades old, 
but it has updated fairly successfully with each new Microsoft change in 
software.
