Betty:  Suggest you use polyester cotton.  When regular cotton starts
turning yellow it secretes acid and that is when the problem begins.
Especially for the shells that you have had a long time.  Like we have
shells we have had for 30 years...we are gradually replacing the cotton
with polyester.
