Paul,
Most of these are self-collected but exhibit some unusual characteristic of shape or color which might be of interest to you. It is quite interesting that a fairly common species can exhibit such variety based on habitat.
Solomon Islands:
6' in white sand & grass -- Ciota, Florida Group -- light form -- small, well spaced dots
30' in coarse white sand -- Mbungana Island -- standard form
70' in silty dark sand -- Lungga Point - Guadalcanal -- dark dots -- some with banding
Red Sea:
25' in sand inside reef lagoon - Zabargad Island - southern Red Sea -- lg size -- fine dots
6' in sand snorkeling Ein Sakhar -- Gulf of Suez (Karlynn Morgan collected)
- small dots wide shoulder -65mm
3' in sand pockets - Daedalus Reef = Central Red Sea -- small dwarf very light form.
Marquesas:
90' in very coarse sand & rubble -- Uae Bay, West Coast, Nuku Hiva - Very dark/purple spots
30' in fine silty sand -- Tataia Bay, East Coast, Nuku Hiva -- dark orange -- banded form
India (not self-collected)
Simply listed as "trawled" -- large size - 65mm+ almost C. eburneus shape.
Mauritius (not self-collected)
Listed as 30' in sand -- almost maroon/purple dot pattern
Malaysia (Borneo)
6' in sand and grass - Sipadan Island -- stubby almost C. glaucus shape
Japan (not self-collected)
Data listed as "S. Japan" - old collection -- very cylindrical, glossy and very flat spire
Cocos Island/West Panama
90-110' in sand at night (Gene Everson collected) -- almost solid body color w/light bands
I have specimens from Fiji, Vanuatu, NW Australia (Ashmore Reef Complex), Diego Garcia, Philippines, New Guinea, Okinawa, and Queensland which all would fall into the "standard" shape and color. I hope this adds something to your "database"
