Intriguing discussion. Wouldn't hurricane activity carry some veligers from
west Africa to Caribbean occasionally? I know that severe weather changes
many of the variables in and around the marine environment suddenly, in
comparison with more normal incremental processes, e.g. beach erosion.
I guess this assumes that veligers tend to be close to surface currents,
(assuming that hurricane turbulence doesn't affect conditions at great
depth). I have not a clue.
