There is an article in Hawaiian Shell News that has information on Conus
scalaris Valenciennes, 1832. See the issue for February 1989 (Vol.
XXXVII, No. 2, New series 350), page 1. The article is titled "A Review
of the Conus Regularis Complex" by A. J. (Bob) Da Motta.

Mr. Da Motta cites the original description and explains how the species
(and others related to C. regularis) has been treated by various authors
since the original description. He concludes by saying this is an
indeterminate species and the name should be regarded as a nomen dubium.

The shell normally sold and identified by modern authors as C. scalaris
Mr. Da Motta calls C. regularis form scalarissimus Da Motta, 1988.
