Hello,
I've got a few Strombidae questions for the experts on the list. Here they are:
1. In my collection I have examples of Strombus maculatus and Strombus maculatus depauperatus.
Other than the color pattern, the only difference I can see is that S. maculatus depauperatus
seems to have a broader flange adjacent to the Stromboid notch. I know that depauperatus isn't
accepted by everyone. My question is: What features were used to initially separate these two
taxa?
2. Is Strombus hirasei a valid species? What features were used to distinguish it in the first
place?
3. Has Strombus thersites ever been reported from the Philippines? If so, what island(s)?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from
you soon. :)
Sincerely,
Tim Blackwood
