I may have solved the puzzle myself. The species described by Powys with
which I am familiar are mostly Pacific Panamanian. Sure enough, there is a
reference in Keen (2nd ed.) to W. Lytellton Powys in Proc. Zool. Soc.
London for 1835(?) entitled: Undescribed shells contained in Mr. Cuming's
collection...  In Dance (Shell Collecting, p. 161) is the statement that a
William Lyttleton Powis (note various spelling of middle and last name)
published on Cuming's material. Apparently Powis and Powys are the same
person, and since he spelled his name Powys in his own paper, I would
imagine that is the correct spelling.
