Global warming  would most likely first cause the sea levels to drop because
increase in temp. would increase in precipitaion. The ice caps would need
about a 10 degree in Global temp. rise to  in order cause enough melt to
affect the sea levels globally. The other thing is that this possible rise in
temp may not be caused by humans. We don't fully understand the climate cycles
on a long range yet. These cycles may be 10,000 years in length and are not
completle preserved in geological samples. We can get an idea of what the
climate was and even some basic patterns up to about 100,000  years ago
because of ice core samples from glaciers. These are the best types of samples
because EVERYTHING is preserved in them. Don't get me wrong I have strong
beliefs that humans are causing the expediation of the global cycles by
releaseing certain things into the air that are not kept under control by
mother nature. But you must also remember that some volcanic eruptions release
10 times the amount of greenhouse gases than humans do.
   I have a feeling that many people think I am not environmentally sound. I
have had 4 years of ecology in high school ( special program) and if I was not
into  malacology  so head deep I would probably be an earth science or ecology
major. As it is my main focus with malacology is the ecological relationships
that mollusks have.  I am an activist for lowering fossil fuel emmisions,
clean water ( I have done 17 stream cleanups in the Wash. DC area in the past
year)  and other things.  I am very mindful about the dangers humans pose to
the earth. However there is a lot of hype created by the media that humans
cause all of this and the end of the world is going to happen in about 10
years.
We must remember to do everything we can to help the earth repair the damage
that was done over the past 300+ years. It can be done without human
involvement but it would take about 100,000 years to even  make a dent, No
more additions to the problems  and even then some of the radioactive waste we
have dumped has a half life of 500 million years. I could go on and on but I
won't
