Folks and Paul,
> Defining species is like nailing jelly to a tree.

David Geiger defines some of the different concepts of species in his
chapter on taxonomy in The Mollusks: A Guide to Their Study, Collection,
and Preservation (pp. 150-151).

I would be remiss if I did not point out that at a low enough temperature,
jelly will be a solid and could be nailed to a tree ;-)

My parting remark is that when I recieved my BS degree in biology I had no
doubt what a species was; as the years go by I am more and more uncertain.

Regards,
Charlie
