Hello He Jing,

The American folk-singer Woody Guthrie (the one who wrote "This Land is Your Land") has a verse in another song:

"It's through this land I've rambled,
I've seen lots of funny men,
Some rob you with a six-gun,
Some with a fountain pen."

Apparently, this phenomenon is not limited to the USA.

A well-known shell collector I met a few years ago told me his attitude about collecting in forbidden areas: "It is better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission." Could you collect in those areas anyway and apologize profusely if you get caught?

Best wishes,

David Kirsh
Durham, NC
