I'm away from my collection and library, but I seem to recall that Peter Dance illustrated an authentic "Murex" barclayi in his work, Rare Shells. It may have been the holotype, and it was collected in western Indian Ocean waters - maybe Mauritius.

That specimen looked different from anything I have seen originating in th Philippines.
